Taco Bell Sauces Ranked by Heat: Mild to Diablo

A TacoBellMenuOnline guide — every figure below comes from our dataset of sampled prices and published nutrition (compiled October 2026).

Taco Bell's heat lives in the packets, and the order is unanimous across every source that has ever ranked them: Mild, then Hot, then Fire, then Diablo — with the Breakfast Salsa packet milder than all of them. The packets are all free and all zero calories; the only numbers that move are the sodium figures. The Scoville numbers below are a different matter: Taco Bell publishes no Scoville ratings at all, so every SHU figure on this page is a third-party estimate, and two of the best-known sources disagree about Fire sauce.

The packets, by the numbers

Sodium per packet: Mild 30mg, Hot 45mg, Fire 55mg, Diablo 30mg. Allergens: Mild carries soy; Fire carries soy and wheat; Hot and Diablo have no allergen recorded. The Diablo Ranch dip is a different product — the Hidden Valley collaboration, $0.25 for 210 calories — not a packet.

The heat ladder — and the Fire sauce disagreement

The Takeout's ladder (February 2025) is the primary estimate set used here: Mild 500–1,000, Hot 2,500–3,000, Fire 4,000–5,000, Diablo 15,000–20,000. Allrecipes (2026) agrees on Diablo but puts Fire at roughly 500–1,000 — about where The Takeout puts Mild. That is a direct conflict between two reputable sources, and there is no official figure to settle it: Taco Bell does not publish Scoville ratings. Other estimates run higher still — ChefsResource puts Diablo at 30,000–50,000 — which only proves the point that these are estimates, not measurements. One figure is not printed here at all: a 350,000-SHU claim for Diablo that circulates in some corners of the internet, which is implausible for a fast-food packet and is ignored.

Diablo, and the creamy sauces

Diablo launched in 2015 and is Taco Bell's hottest regular packet — the one the menu builds its spiciest LTOs around, including the Diablo Ranch Steak Nacho Fries and the Diablo Ranch Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider. The creamy sauces are a separate family: Creamy Jalapeño, Spicy Ranch, Chipotle and Avocado Ranch. Avocado Ranch sauce itself is a current item, but the Avocado Ranch crispy-chicken taco and burrito were discontinued on January 22, 2026 — the sauce outlived the items it launched with. The sauce sayings on the packets — the jokes printed on the back — are covered in the sauce packets guide.

About this guide's data

Every figure in this guide comes from one dataset: sampled Taco Bell prices and published nutrition, compiled and verified in October 2026 (prices are re-checked monthly, and every data page carries its verification stamp). Rankings state their rule in the open and are computed from those rows — never voted on, never estimated. Where a value is missing it is shown as missing, and each named item links to its own page, where the full label, allergen record and sampled price range can be checked. Prices vary by location; nutrition values are the published figures for the standard build.
