Illustrative stock photo — not a Taco Bell product photograph.
The Baja Blast Freeze is the frozen version of Taco Bell's tropical-lime fountain drink: a bright blue-green slush, sweet and sharp at once. This is our own home version — an inspired copycat, not Taco Bell's recipe, which the chain does not publish. The original's numbers are the benchmark below.
| Item | Price | Calories |
|---|---|---|
| MTN DEW Baja Blast Freeze | $3.49 | 190 Cal |
Ingredients
- 500ml Mountain Dew (or another lemon-lime soda)
- 250ml blue sports drink
- Juice of 1 lime
- 500g ice cubes
- 60ml tropical punch (optional, for the fruit note)
Method
- Chill everything. The soda, the sports drink and the lime juice should all be fridge-cold before you start — warm liquid melts the slush before it forms.
- Blend in two passes. Blend the soda, sports drink, lime juice and half the ice until smooth, then add the rest of the ice and pulse until the texture turns to a thick slush.
- Serve immediately. Pour into chilled glasses and serve at once — a freeze waits for nobody, and it separates as it melts.
Serving size & prep time
Serves 2. Prep about 5 minutes; no cooking.
Nutrition — the honest version
The restaurant's Baja Blast Freeze is 190 calories for 20 oz (150 Cal for 16 oz) with 51g sugars in the 20 oz serving. We do not publish a summed homemade total. The total depends on the soda and sports drink brands used, so any figure we printed would be an estimate. The benchmark is the original's panel above — and the sugar is the number to watch: the home version is a treat drink, not a light one. The Baja Blast Freeze page carries the original's full label, and the fountain version is the MTN DEW Baja Blast.
About this guide's data
Every figure in this guide comes from one dataset: sampled Taco Bell prices and published nutrition, compiled and verified in October 2026 (prices are re-checked monthly, and every data page carries its verification stamp). Rankings state their rule in the open and are computed from those rows — never voted on, never estimated. Where a value is missing it is shown as missing, and each named item links to its own page, where the full label, allergen record and sampled price range can be checked. Prices vary by location; nutrition values are the published figures for the standard build.
Frequently asked questions
How many calories are in a homemade Baja Blast Freeze?
We don't publish a summed homemade total — it depends on the soda and sports drink brands used. The restaurant's Freeze is 190 calories for 20 oz (150 for 16 oz).
What is in a Baja Blast Freeze?
The restaurant's version is a frozen tropical-lime slush. Our copycat blends lemon-lime soda with a blue sports drink, lime juice and ice — an inspired version, not the exact recipe.
Is this the exact Taco Bell recipe?
No — this is an inspired copycat. Taco Bell does not publish its recipes; this version recreates the frozen tropical-lime slush at home.
Why two passes in the blender?
Blending all the ice at once strains a home blender and leaves chunks. Two passes — liquid and half the ice first, then the rest — gives a smooth slush.
