When is National Taco Day?

Since 2024, National Taco Day falls on the first Tuesday of October, so it always lands on a Taco Tuesday. That makes the next one Tuesday, October 5, 2027. Before the move it was fixed on October 4 — so older articles that say "October 4" are describing the pre-2024 date, not a second holiday.

What Taco Bell did in 2026: Global Taco Day

Taco Bell's own newsroom announcement (October 6, 2026) is the source for the campaign: Taco Bell and Duolingo took National Taco Day worldwide for the first time, built around the word "taco", which the release notes is understood in more than 30 languages. The pieces were:

• Duo Habanero Sauce — a limited-edition sauce, "bright and tangy with fruity notes and a kick of habanero heat", in packets carrying taco sayings in nine languages (English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese). In the US the first packet was free with any Doritos Locos Tacos order, with extra packets at $0.20 each, while supplies last. It has its own Duo Habanero Sauce page.
• One free month of Super Duolingo — Taco Bell Rewards members could claim it from October 1–6, 2026, with codes redeemable by November 15, 2026.
• 1,000 Taco Bell x Duo plushies — Duo the owl in a Taco Bell uniform with a mini headset, released through the Tuesday Drops page on October 6 at 2 p.m. PT, while supplies last.
• Live activations — Duolingo takeovers in New York, Toronto, Mumbai and Shanghai, including the Toronto store at 252 Church Street from 10:30 a.m. on October 6.

The deals around the day

Delivery platforms carried their own National Taco Day offers, reported by USA Today: DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats gave a free crunchy or soft seasoned-beef taco on orders of $22 or more, with Uber One student members getting a free Doritos Locos Taco on $20 or more. Parade and the Economic Times also reported a weeklong $4 meal for October 6–12 — a Doritos Locos Taco, a seasoned-beef Soft Taco, Cinnamon Twists and a medium fountain drink — at participating locations and in the app; that $4 meal is reported, not from Taco Bell's newsroom release, so treat the app as the final word on whether it ran at your store. Is any of it still available?

The dated pieces are over: the Super Duolingo claim window closed October 6, the plushie drop was October 6, and the delivery free-taco offers were day-of. The Duo Habanero Sauce was issued while supplies last, so a packet may still turn up at a participating store, but it is not a permanent menu item — and the next National Taco Day is October 5, 2027.
